One of the problems with doing ministry in the most persecuted regions in the world is that it's hard to transfer funds. Governments are cracking down on funds that could be used for Christian purposes. Take India for example, since 2014 they revoked licenses from over 16,000 organizations that were receiving foreign funds. One way around this is to do goat businesses, AKA goat ministry. We can set up goat businesses so they can be self-sustainable, under the radar, and all without foreign support (After a one-time transfer of funds that is).
Goat farming can be a fairly profitable business for people in the South Asia and Middle Eastern countries we are working in. How the goat ministry works is that someone donates two female goats and one male goat. After five months they will give birth to 1 to 3 kids. Once they have enough goats to sustain themselves, they give three goats to another family so they can start a goat business of their own and repeat the process. A donation of three goats will eventually multiply into many businesses that will have an exponential impact that will provide sustainable support for many leaders.
Dairy goats can produce up to 16 cups of milk a day. Goat’s milk is easier to digest than cow’s milk and has an excellent source of protein, calcium, and other important nutrients. Goats are practical animals for these types of climates and cultures. Most people in these areas we operate in eat goats and in the Hindu cultures they use them for sacrifice, so there will always be a demand.
One of the many benefits of this program is that it can help reach more of the unreached people groups. There are large amounts of people all over India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan that have never heard about Jesus before, simply because they live so far away from the easy to reach cities. The goat ministry is the perfect business for these rural areas. We can do an Uber business in larger cities to support leaders there, but there's not enough demand in these rural areas.
This option is like the "teach a man to fish" approach. You can donate three goats with a one time gift, and these goats will generate more money for them long-term than if you supported them every month. This doesn't just support one family though because they will eventually give three goats to another family, and will keep repeating the process. Your one time gift will have an exponential impact.
We are also setting up a program to donate sheep, chickens, and goats. The goat ministry will eventually extend beyond our church members and be used to minister to the unbelievers by gifting them chickens and goats.
